Greasy Wood or Metal Cabinets
Cabinets tend to attract sticky grease from your kitchen creations. To easily get rid of the grease on your cabinets, you can heat a damp sponge or cloth in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Put on some rubber gloves and spray your cabinets with an all-purpose cleaner with orange oil. Use the warm, damp sponge to wipe off the cleaner. If some of your cabinets have stubborn greasy areas, let the cleaner sit for about 5 minutes. Rinse and reheat the sponges as needed. Be sure to wipe in the direction of the wood grain. Once all cabinets are wiped down, go back and wipe the cabinets with a cool, damp cloth.
Extend the Life of Your Carpet
Regularly vacuuming your carpet and having it professionally cleaned can extend the life of your carpet. Vacuum carpet at least once a week, and vacuum high-traffic areas more often. It’s good for your carpet to have it professionally cleaned once a year to remove all the dirt, dust, and grime that gets embedded into the carpet fibers and pad.
Dirty Chandeliers
Chandeliers look stunning but can be tricky to clean–unless you follow this hack. First, spread a plastic tarp on the floor under the chandelier to catch the drips. Ensure the light is off and spray the chandelier with a cleaning solution of one part isopropyl alcohol to four parts distilled water. Keep spraying until the liquid starts to run (and takes the dust with it). You’ll use plenty of spray but won’t have to wipe each piece. The cleaning solution evaporates quickly and won’t leave water spots.
Grab Some Microfiber Cloths
If you’re not using microfiber cloths to clean, it’s definitely time to pick some up. Microfiber cloths can help you give a spotless finish to mirrors, countertops, tile, and light fixtures. After you clean the surface and it’s dry, polish it with a clean, dry microfiber cloth.
Duct Tape Removes Fuzz and Pet Hair
Duct tape has thousands of uses! It’s so sticky that it’s great for removing pet hair or fuzz from furniture. It’s more efficient than vacuuming to remove all traces of pet hair. You can wrap a loop of duct tape around your hand or a paint roller with the sticky part out. Roll it over the furniture, carpet, or wherever there’s hair to pick up. Get new tape once it’s full of hair.
Spot Clean
Avoid stains by spot cleaning spills immediately instead of waiting. You’ve probably seen stain pens and bleach pens that can easily remove small stains from clothing, upholstery, grout, etc. Keep the bleach away from colored fabrics or surfaces. It’s also a good idea to spot test in an inconspicuous area.
