Shas'O Shaserra, better known as Commander Shadowsun to the military forces of the Imperium of Man, and also called the "Spearhead of the Greater Good", the "True Disciple of Commander Puretide" and "Heroine of the Third Sphere Expansion", was the commander of the T'au Fire Caste's military campaign that carried out the T'au Empire's Third Sphere Expansion. After the alleged betrayal of Commander Farsight (known as Shas'O Shovah or simply O'Shovah in the Tau Lexicon), the T'au Empire's ruling Ethereal Supreme Aun'Va selected a more-steadfast replacement to conduct the Third Sphere Expansion of the T'au Empire. The great Ethereal selected Commander O'Shaserra for this important role.

The T'au Empire was founded by the T'au caste called the Ethereals, who lead the T'au Empire in the name of the philosophy they have named the Greater Good.
