Find, Fix, and Finesse Your Plot into a Winning IdeaYOU'LL LOVE THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR IF: You have a finished novel or proposal and are ready to submit your work You have received a rejection and wonder if it was your synopsis or your plot that was at fault You would like to learn how to distill your entire book into just a few paragraphs ABOUT THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR: When you recommend a book to a friend, don't you tell them first and foremost what happened in it? And when it comes down to talking

YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR IF:

  • You have a finished novel or proposal and are ready to submit your work
  • You have received a rejection and wonder if it was your synopsis or your plot that was at fault
  • You would like to learn how to distill your entire book into just a few paragraphs

ABOUT THIS ONDEMAND WEBINAR:

When you recommend a book to a friend, don't you tell them first and foremost what happened in it? And when it comes down to talking about your own book, don't people ask: What's it about? Your book is about your plot, and that is no small thing. Voice, character, and writing style matter a lot,but all those things with a weak plot can make for a lackluster read.

In this presentation, instructor and literary agent Kate McKean will show you ways to improve your plot and how to troubleshoot any pitfalls, holes, and inconsistencies it may have. She explains what all great plots have in common and how to avoid the familiar tropes that can affect your novel (in a bad way). She also teaches you how to brainstorm new ideas and fix the ones you already have. By the end of this presentation, you will have the tools you need to start looking objectively at your plot and the ability to convey those ideas in an effective synopsis.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • The seven elements every plot has to have
  • How to respect the reader in regards to your plot
  • How, if, and when to chart, outline, and plan your plot
  • How to let your plot and characters roam free on the page
  • Why people say there are only seven plots under the sun
  • Why doing the exact opposite of those seven plots is not necessarily the answer
  • Why ‚ÄúBut it happened that way in real life!" is the worse excuse for a plot point

INSTRUCTOR

While traveling in Ethiopia as a tourist.
Format: Kindle
It is a very concrete and well written history of Ethiopia. While traveling in a photo tour I decided I wanted to know more of the contrasting country my shoes were on. I think this short book completes my need to my entire satisfaction

Informative, compact history of rulers, religion and struggles.
Format: Kindle
This book is well written. It filled out my knowledge of Ethiopia, which was mostly that it was isolated from neighbors and most empires. I had heard of biblical contacts, two Italian invasions, civil wars and famines. In this book I learned of contacts with ancient Rome, Byzantium, the Ottomans, and Arabs. Trade carried on the silk road, and by sea. There was influence of Judaism, Islam and competing Christian sects. The sequence of leaders were covered as well as how they came to power. Many conflicts are covered, insurrections and invasions. The Haile Selassie period is covered, as well as his downfall. Then the military period is covered, with communism and factionalism. Finally the recent period is covered,up to the present civil wars of 2022. I would recommend this compact book, for anyone planning a visit, or wanting background knowledge.

Don't get tricked into buying this book like I did.
Format: Paperback
This is a fake book written by AI. It reads worse than a Wikipedia article and is a complete scam.

A Rough, Rocky Start
Format: Kindle
Modern Africa started after a long rough and rocky start. This book describes the trials each district has had to face to gain their freedom from Europe and what life was like in each district under the control of foreigners. As WWI began, many of Africa's districts were effected, some were forced to supply fighting men, some had their resources used to support the war effort, and some had fighting in their area. When WWII started Africa found that not much had changed. However, as Africa gained its freedom and became self governing internal wars broke out between the different tribes. Well, you will have to read the book to find out how that turned out. This book covers all that and so much more. It all written in an easy to read and understand format that Captivating History is known for and as always they do a great job of explaining everything. This is a great book and recommend you giving it a read.

An Overview of an Oft-Overlooked History
Format: Kindle
Depending on your ethnicity, you may, or may not, know a lot about Africa. This book summarizes the Continent’s history, highlighting the major events and occurrences that contributed its current geopolitical state. Africa today is made up of 54 countries, 2000 languages, 20% of the Earth's land mass, and 1.4 billion people. It therefore should play an important part in the World, today (which it does, but one that rarely makes the headlines in USA TV or newspaper coverage.) The Author covers, Slavery, European Colonization, Africa’s part in World Wars One & Two, and the various Religious histories going back to the time of Christ. Since the author is American, there is a portion devoted to the USA’s main relationships with different African Nations. All this culminates in a surveillance of the numerous African Civil Wars of the last 50 years leading to the reality of the current geopolitical scene. The section on Dictators and Revolutionaries is limited to one of each. I’m guessing there could have been more. Still, if you are looking for an overview of Africa as it is today and what contributed to its present situation, this is an excellent beginning point.
