Een naaister die een trouwjurk aan het naaien is vreest dat haar zoon al rijdend in een vrachtwagen per ongeluk is ontvoerd en naar Patagonië is verdwenen. Volledig in paniek belt ze een lokale taxi om de achtervolging in te zetten. Als haar man hoort wat er is gebeurd, gaat hij achter vrouw en kind aan. Zo racen ze niet alleen naar het einde van de wereld, maar ook naar avonturen vol verlangen. De wilde zuidenwind wordt verliefd op de naaister en een monsterachtig kind neemt het op tegen de vrachtwagenchauffeur. De halsbrekende achtervolging wordt afgewisseld met Aira’s meeslepende overpeinzingen en herinneringen aan zijn jeugd in zijn geboorteplaats, de arbeidersstad Coronel Pringles. César Aira (1949) is geboren in Coronel Pringles, Argentinië. Sinds 1967 woont hij in Buenos Aires. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de origineelste schrijvers van Zuid-Amerika en heeft meer dan honderd titels op zijn naam staan. Hij schrijft geregeld voor El País en zijn werk is in vele landen vertaald. Eerder verschenen van hem bij Koppernik Een episode uit het leven van een landschapsschilder, Het literatuurcongres en De haas.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Bought 3 year warranty for new Dyson vacuum for $76. On day 2 the battery for vacuum would not lock into place. In order to have a functioning vacuum as quickly as possible, I purchased a second battery from Amazon. That resolved the problem, proving the battery was the problem, not the vacuum. I filed a claim with Assurion, which included sending photos, receipts, etc. The claim was still "processing" for a week. I got on a chat with Assurion, and for nearly an hour I tried to explain why it was unnecessary for me to return the whole vacuum. I asked for a supervisor, but they advised me to call because no supervisor was available. I called, and after finally getting through the computer system, I got the same run around. Finally a supervisor came on the line to tell me that this was actually an Amazon or a Dyson problem, and that I would need to return the entire vacuum. Also they would not "reimburse" for the battery I purchased. I never wanted reimbursement, I only wanted a functional battery - which is what I paid for. The supervisor told me I could "contact" Amazon. Everyone knows there is no human to contact at Amazon. You can keep the product, or you can return the product. As previously stated, I do not want to return the vacuum. Finally, the supervisor connected my call to Dyson. They refused to help me because I purchased the vacuum through Amazon. After two wasted hours, I ended up just where I suspected I would...without any help at all. I am going to try to "return" the useless Assurion warranty.
