De plaat kwam voort uit een inmiddels legendarische marathonsessie onder invloed van lsd, waarbij de band hun vakmanschap als songwriters verder aanscherpte zonder de ruimte voor grensverleggende, psychedelische jams te verliezen.
Dit album markeerde bovendien de officiële introductie van de legendarische toetsenist Bernie Worrell, die een cruciale rol zou gaan spelen in het geluid van de groep. Het succes van de plaat bleek ook uit de hitlijsten, waar het de 92e positie behaalde in de Billboard Pop chart en daarmee de status van Funkadelic als pioniers van de funk definitief vestigde.
