Je bent een amateur-dracoloog in de wereld van Wyrmspan, een plek waar draken in alle soorten, maten en kleuren door de lucht zwerven. Graaf een verborgen labyrint op dat je onlangs op je land hebt opgegraven en verleid deze prachtige wezens om zich in het heiligdom van je grotten te nestelen. Tijdens een spelletje Wyrmspan bouw je een toevluchtsoord voor draken in alle soorten en maten. Je heiligdom begint met 3 uitgegraven ruimtes: de meest linkse ruimte in je Crimson Cavern, je Golden Grotto en je Amethyst Abyss. In de loop van het spel zul je extra ruimtes in je heiligdom uitgraven en draken verleiden om daar te wonen, waarbij je krachtige vaardigheden aan elkaar koppelt en de gunst van het Drakengilde verdient. Wyrmspan is geïnspireerd op de mechanismen van Wingspan, hoewel de unieke elementen Wyrmspan tot een op zichzelf staand spel maken (niet compatibel met Wingspan).
