Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin “La Justice” 2023 is een elegante en precieze rode Bourgogne die finesse en diepgang mooi weet te combineren. In de neus komen zwarte kers, framboos en viooltjes naar voren, aangevuld met fijne kruiden, een subtiele aardse toets en een licht stenige, minerale ondertoon. In de mond is de wijn rechtlijnig en fluweelzacht, met rijp maar zuiver fruit, elegante tannines en een mooie spanning die voor lengte en verfijning zorgt. De afdronk is lang, helder en mineraal, met een stijl die eerder op precisie en transparantie inzet dan op kracht.

Vinificatie.
La Justice is afkomstig van een klein perceel in Gevrey-Chambertin met stenige, kleirijke bodems en oude stokken, wat de wijn extra concentratie en diepgang geeft. De vinificatie gebeurt met veel aandacht voor zuiverheid en detail. De druiven worden volledig ontsteeld, vergisten met inheemse gisten en rijpen vervolgens op eiken vat, met een aandeel nieuw hout dat extra structuur en gelaagdheid geeft zonder het fruit te overheersen. Het resultaat is een Pinot Noir met souplesse, precisie en een duidelijke kalkachtige spanning.

Het domein.
Domaine Marc Roy is een klein maar bijzonder hoog aangeschreven domein in Gevrey-Chambertin, vandaag geleid door Alexandrine Roy, de vierde generatie van de familie. Het domein staat bekend om wijnen die finesse, transparantie en terroiruitdrukking centraal stellen, eerder dan pure kracht of extractie. De stijl is exact, verfijnd en zeer zuiver, met veel aandacht voor detail in zowel wijngaard als kelder.

Op vlak van duurzaamheid werkt het domein met een uitgesproken zorgzame en hands-on benadering in de wijngaard. De bodems worden geploegd in plaats van chemisch schoongehouden, met als doel een actiever bodemleven, diepere beworteling en een duidelijkere expressie van de kalkrijke ondergrond. Er wordt sterk ingezet op manueel werk, lage rendementen en een nauwkeurige opvolging van elk perceel, met zo weinig mogelijk overbodige interventies. Ook in de kelder blijft de werkwijze terughoudend en precies, zodat het karakter van de wijn helder en ongekunsteld naar voren komt.

3 stars Thank you Netgalley and Briar Boleyn for the ARC! A camelot/king Arthur retelling with fae. I was hooked by the idea of this book immediately and was eager to jump into this world. • slow burn • enemies to lovers • who did this to you Morgan Pendragon watched her mother die by her father's hand when she was just eight years old, hiding under the bed. Morgan is believed to have the tainted blood of the fae in her veins and is cast aside so that her fathers illegitimate son, Arthur, can become the king. She's seen his cruel treatment of the fae firsthand, so when he sends her on a journey to find a fae weapon she seizes the opportunity to do more with her life. Along the way, she finds more than she could have imagined. I don't know a whole lot about King Arthur and Camelot but I had a lot of fun with this story! The plot has some similar tropes to popular romantasy books (From blood and ash) but there's enough originality here that it doesn't feel like I'm reading a copy. I liked how the fae were different in appearance than what is typical in most fantasy books I've read. In this book they have blue hair, violet skin and a wide range of other characteristics. I thought that the world building was easy to follow and I could easily immerse myself into this world. After reading the blurb I kept wondering when she was going to go on the journey to find Excalibur and it doesn't happen until around the 45% mark. The story is a bit slow at times but starts to pick up once they begin their journey to find Excalibur. The John Wick style Inn was a fun concept that I enjoyed reading about. There are a lot of similarities to this and FBAA and I would have liked to have it be a little more different, but I'm hoping book two will have the story turn into something of its own. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and I'm looking forward to reading book two especially after that ending.

So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.
