Squirrel! From Distracted to Committed: Reading, Training, and Recovering the Search WebinarDistractors show up at every level of Nosework. Distractors show up at every level of Nosework. Food, toys, people, animal odor, social scent, search-area novelty, environmental pressure, stress, and reinforcement history can all change how a dog works.

Distractors are not one training problem. A dog may investigate competing reinforcement, check an environmental change, respond to stress or pressure, shift into handler-dependent searching, or lose clarity in the task. Those moments can look similar from the outside, yet they need different training responses.

In this webinar, Judith will discuss how to read distractor behavior in context. Handlers will learn how to look at the dog’s interest, intensity, recovery, search history, odor history, reinforcement history, handler influence, and environment to better understand what changed in the search.

We will look at how distractors can affect hunt, odor recognition, sourcing/odor obedience, decision-making, communication, and recovery. Judith will discuss how reward value, odor history, setup design, handler timing, handler pressure, environmental pressure, and search setup influence the dog’s ability to stay committed to the task.

Training through distractors should build clarity, confidence, and stronger choices. Dogs need opportunities to notice competing information, choose the task, and return to odor or hunt with confidence. Handlers must understand when to wait, when to help, how much help to give, and how to recover the search without taking over the dog’s job.

A distractor moment does not have to end the search. Handlers can learn how to recognize the point of breakdown, support the dog appropriately, and help the team return to productive searching.

The goal is to help handlers build better training plans around distractors. Not every distractor problem has the same cause, so the training plan should match the actual point of breakdown. When handlers understand what the dog is doing and what value the distractor has for the dog, they can train stronger commitment, better recovery, and more reliable searches.

This webinar will cover the following topics:

• common types of distractors in Nosework
• reading distractor interest in context
• recognizing competing reinforcement
• understanding environmental and social distractions
• separating distractor interest from stress, avoidance, confusion, or pressure
• understanding handler influence around distractors
• building stronger task commitment around distractions
• using setup design to train better choices
• strengthening reward value and search engagement
• improving handler timing around distractors
• helping the dog recover without taking over the search
• returning to odor or hunt after a distractor
• using distractor behavior to guide future training

Nice BIG enameled cast iron dutch oven. like LeCreuset but costs less
Color: Blue, Size: 6-Quart
This is nice quality, similar to the far more costly French LeCreuset brand. I was surprised how big this model is, possibly too big for my small kitchen and limited storage space. I store it in the oven. It would be great for baking sourdough boule bread.

Enamel finish
Color: Matte Navy, Size: 6-Quart
This is an amazing pot, got the 6 Qt for beautiful roast dinners and for baking bread. All comes out evenly baked. Cast Iron is best and it has a nice finish for easy clean up.

Simple, Comfortable, and Exactly What You Expect
Style: Rack with 3 Pairs (5, 10, and 15 Pound)
These are pretty much exactly what you want from a set of dumbbells — simple, functional, and no nonsense. The neoprene coating gives them a comfortable grip and keeps them from feeling slick in your hands, especially during longer workouts or if your hands get sweaty. The coating also helps keep them from banging up floors or making as much noise compared to bare metal weights, which is nice if you’re working out at home. Weight accuracy seems fine for general fitness use, and they’ve worked great for things like accessory movements, shoulder work, lighter presses, rehab-style exercises, and general muscle toning. The shape also helps keep them from rolling around everywhere when set down. They’re not fancy, and they’re not trying to be — they’re just dependable dumbbells that do what they’re supposed to do at a fair price. If you want straightforward hand weights for home workouts without overthinking it, these are a solid buy.

Reliable, Comfortable Dumbbells I Actually Use Every Day
Style: 12 Pound, Pair, Style: 12 Pound, Pair
I’ve been using the Amazon Basics Neoprene Dumbbell Hand Weights daily, and they’ve honestly been perfect for my routine. Whether I’m doing a quick morning workout or adding resistance to a longer session, these have held up really well. The neoprene coating makes a big difference—it provides a comfortable, non-slip grip, even during longer workouts or when my hands get a little sweaty. They’re also easy to clean and don’t have that strong rubber smell some weights can have. I really appreciate the hex shape too. They stay put when I set them down (no rolling across the floor), which makes switching between exercises quick and frustration-free. The weight feels evenly distributed and well-balanced, so movements feel controlled and smooth. Overall, these are simple, no-frills dumbbells that just work. If you’re looking for reliable hand weights for everyday use—whether you’re a beginner or just need something dependable for home workouts—these are a great choice.

Great quality and perfect for home workouts!
Style: Rack with 3 Pairs (3, 5, and 8 Pound)
I’m really happy with this dumbbell set. The weights are clearly labeled (3 lb, 5 lb, and 8 lb), which makes it super convenient to switch between exercises. The neoprene coating feels comfortable in hand and provides a good grip, even during longer workouts. The storage stand is a big plus—it keeps everything organized and saves space, which is perfect for a small home gym. The colors are also nice and make it easy to quickly grab the weight you need. Overall, this is a great set for beginners or anyone looking to add light strength training to their routine. Highly recommend!
