In 1905, Bartók, together with composer Zoltán Kodály, began collecting and publishing Transylvanian and Balkan folk songs. And in the following years he succeeded in publishing several musical masterpieces, such as Mikrokosmos, musical works for strings, percussion and steel sheet piano, as well as concerto works for orchestra. The piece "Romanian Folk Dances", on the other hand, fully demonstrates how Bartók has incorporated these ethnic elements into his musical style.Bartók's collection of folk melodies was often played on flute-like or woodwind instruments, such as the Bulgarian Kaval, Hungarian Furulya and Serbian Dvojnica, as well as many other instrumental variations. in 1917, Bartók formed a small chamber orchestra and adapted the Romanian Folk Dance from a solo piano to a duo work. Since then, there have been many versions with the violin or flute as the soloist, accompanied by piano or guitar instruments.
The version adapted by Joanna Wu and Georgi Videnov brings new possibilities to this work. The marimba instead of piano accompaniment makes the piece more "ethnic" and "primitive", and the beautiful sound of the flute is a perfect match.

Great way to introduce children to drag queens and gender transition
Format: Paperback
This is a nice story about a little girl (in 5th grade) who lives with her mom and uncle who is a drag queen. Over the course of the story, she realizes that the reason she doesn’t like make-up, jewelry, dresses, and nail polish is NOT because she has watched a grown man wear those things her entire life. And it isn’t because some girls just don’t like those things. It is because she is really a boy. She transitions to a boy and is finally happy. This is a great story to introduce children to drag queens and the idea that if they aren’t stereotypical girls or boys, they might be born in the wrong body. Happiness can be found living a life pretending to be the sex that you are not.

Amazing!
Format: Kindle
My diverse literature professor required we read this book for a literature circle assignment. I absolutely adore this book! It was a window inside the life of a transgender child. Juvenile content for young readers but a serious and important overall theme. I highly recommend.
