Schaefer would open the season on a 6-game point streak, becoming the second rookie defenseman in NHL history to record a point in his first 6 career games. On October 11, 2025, in the team’s home opener against the Washington Capitals, Schaefer would score his first career goal, a third period power play goal 4:28 into the period. His hot start earned him Rookie of the Month honors for the month of October. Through the first 46 games of his rookie season, Schaefer has recorded 13 goals and 17 assists, his 13 goals has put him on pace to break Phil Housley’s record of 19 goals in a season for 18-year-old defensemen.
