A rare design and totally charming sentimental brooch dating to the first half of 1800's England.
Designed as a pansy ( a sentimental flower during the 1800's with symbolic meaning), this brooch has been created with multiple locket compartments. Each one carefully glazed over and housing tiny plaits of loved one's hair! All original, some better condition than others as this was clearly loved and worn.
We believe this tone a sentimental piece rather than a mourning brooch. Looking behind the piece you will see each locket has been engraved with a name. They read, Ellen, Julia, Thomas, Connolly, Anne, William, Mitchel, Jane, George & Sally. Its is conceivable this is aa mother brooch of children or family. A lovely and rather special token of love.
The entire piece is created from 9 carat gold and this would have been a very prestigious piece of jewellery. We have never seen one designed like this before!

WEIGHT: 6.8 grams approximately
HALLMARKS: unhallmarked 9 carat gold
CONDITION: this is in good antique condition and ready to be worn and loved! There light and general wear all over and a few of the hair lockets have possible water damage.
