By: Joris LuyendijkA war correspondent’s bestselling, “commanding . . . eye-opening account” of five years on the Middle East frontlines (Publishers Weekly, starred review).
In 1998, Joris Luyendijk was stationed just outside of Cairo. It wasn’t for his journalism skills. It was because he was fluent in Arabic. What followed—from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through the post 9/11 war in Iraq—would be literal trial-by-fire for the young untested reporter. What he had going for him was his ability to communicate.
Determined to cover the conflicts from the inside, Luyendijk spoke with stone throwers and staunch terrorists, taxi drivers, civil servants and professors, victims and aggressors, and all of their families. He chronicled first-hand experiences of dictatorship, occupation, fear, resilience, jubilation, and community. But the more Luyendijk witnessed, the less he understood. He became increasingly aware of the yawning gap between what he witnessed on the ground and what was being reported by the media. As a correspondent, he was privy to a multitude of narratives with conflicting implications, and he saw over and over again that the favored stories were those that would be sure to confirm the popularly held, oversimplified beliefs of the outside world.
“Disturbing, thought-provoking, and ultimately profound,” People Like Us shatters our perceptions of what we’re led to believe—a filtered, altered, and manipulated image of reality in the Middle East that has become a wholly designed theater of war for the western audience (Norman Solomon, author of War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death).

Soft but Thinner Than Expected
Color: Pink, Color: Pink
This cashmere scarf is very soft and pleasant to the touch. The color is really nice. It is not too bright and is a bit darker than in the pictures, but still very close to the description.
What I did not expect is that the scarf is not very wide and is quite thin. Because of that, I was a little disappointed.

A pricy scarf, but worth it for its warmth and softness
Color: Pink
Came in a box that would look like it was be used as a gift. Scarf was really soft and warm and the color matches the imaged shown on the product images. The length and size was true to what was said. Gave this as a gift for valentines day and the other person was happy to receive and and like it as well. I will say that the price of the scarf is pretty pricy but I guess that's why you have to pay for a pretty good quality scarf.

Cute, warmth and quality!
Size: Small-X-Large, Color: Undyed Beige, Size: Small-X-Large, Color: Undyed Beige
Comfortable, cute and kept me warm, but not too hot. The cashmere felt great, extremely soft, and it didn’t mess up my hair like a synthetic hat can. We were out in subzero weather, and this baby did its job!

Perfect fit for a small woman or teenager
Size: Small-X-Large, Color: Light Gray
I think this beanie is a great price for the quality. It’s about as soft as wool can possibly be. I was very impressed by the packaging. It made me feel like I was opening a luxury item, which is nice because it was reasonably priced. They even included a bit of extra yarn in case it needs repairs someday. It does fit a bit snug. I have a small head, so it might be uncomfortable for someone with a bigger head. I definitely would NOT buy this for a man. It’s comfortable for a small female only, or a teenager. Overall, I think it’s a good hat for the price.
