It has the earthy pungency of asafoetita and hints of the chypric green quality of Galbanum. Gum Ammoniac includes within it a fragrant x-factor, a je ne sais quoi that is not unpleasant. I may not choose to use Gum Ammoniac as a single note burn, but blended judiciously into an incense blend it will give it an animated vibrancy that will keep people wondering what is underscoring the over all fragrance. A little will go a long way.

This gum resin could be tinctured and added to an incense mixture or one may freeze the gum and grind it in a mortar and pestle. If you choose to use the mortar and pestle, I would use one that is made of brass or stainless as marble and soapstone may pick up that pungency.
