THE ROM COM

The romantic comedy can mean different things to different people, and my aren't there a lot of them? So, apologies to the many hundreds of movies that could easily have made it into this book but didn't. Having put this Top Twenty together based on various online polls and articles, and a little bit of personal choice, there seems to be only one thing that anyone agrees on, and that's the Number One. The movie that comes in a the top of our chart would appear to be at the top of everyone's chart.

As for your favourite rom com that didn't make it, please send us a message online and I'm sure we could fill a second volume. For everyone who thinks Shaun Of The Dead is a rom com, sorry we didn't agree, but I hope you'll like seeing The Princess Bride in there. For everyone who'd like to see Love Actually and Notting Hill, I hope you don't mind your one Richard Curtis movie being Four Weddings And A Funeral. Frank Capra only gets one movie in, with It Happened One Night, and Howard Hawks gets one with His Girl Friday. Shakespeare gets two mentions, but only one of his plays in Much Ado About Nothing. And poor old Jane Austen doesn't get a look in at all this time, though Edmund Rostand does (google him and you'll see where his 1897 verse play Cyrano De Bergerac has wound up in our chart).

Congratulations to Nora Ephron, who's made it into the chart twice, with Sleepless In Seattle and When Harry Met Sally, and to Meg Ryan, Andie McDowell, and Hugh Grant, who've each managed to creep in to two different drawings. Hope you like the drawings, they're all new, especially for you
