We are delighted to announce that the F-14D Tomcat – already a popular Tamiya assembly kit in 1/48 scale (Item 61118) – is now being released in 1/72 scale.

This is in fact the first Tamiya-designed Tomcat in the 1/72 War Bird Series, which of course offers the modeller a streamlined assembly experience without letting up on the detail. The Tomcat enjoyed an active career from the early 1970s until 2006; initially given a fleet defence role, in the 1990s the Tomcat’s superb range saw that role expanded to include strike missions, and then later that decade the addition of the LANTIRN targeting pod meant it could undertake long-range bombing runs using laser-guided ordnance. The F-14D was the final variant, which inherited its F-14B predecessor’s General Electric F110-GE-400 engines and was given major upgrades to avionics. It reached units from 1992, serving in the skies over Iraq and Afghanistan. It finally retired from U.S. Navy service in 2006.

About the Model

  • Horizontal stabilisers move thanks to poly caps
  • The modeller has a choice of open and closed fuel probe (on the right of the nose) and boarding ladder and step (on fuselage left)
  • Parts are included to recreate laser-guided bombs, LANTIRN pod and air-to-air missiles

Would be better with longer cable and without the LED light.
I like that the install is very easy, non-permanent, and can be very quickly removed if needed. It fast charges and the magnets are strong (the reviews that say it doesn’t hold probably aren’t using a MagSafe case). That said I have two annoying issues: 1) There is a light that comes on when the car is turned on. If you don’t put your phone on the charger it will say on for a minute or two and then eventually turn off. 2) The included USB-C cable is too short. It only just barely reaches the outlet in the front bottom center console. It would be better if they had included a 6ft with a 90-deg connector to draw power from the back seat ports. 3) It doesn’t not include a charger. In all, the mount and charger are fine, but be prepared to spend an extra $20 on a longer cable and charger to make it all work.

Phone holder, not charger.
Nice plastic phone holder, works a lot better if you don’t have a phone case, it fits almost flushed. It doesn’t use “stickiness” to hold its self, just pressure from bottom phone, it holds nicely but has a little gap on the sides, it too much pressure is applied then Tesla screen starts showing pressure. The wire is small but reaches the under panel how ever, it does not fit flushed, will need to do some tinkering. I slide the wire under the charger where the phones go. Now the door can’t close but it can pass through. That charger is not fast but it works. Edit: nah, don’t get it. The charger doesn’t charge, it will charge them stop. It works like a phone holder…
