COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Essential Skills for Aged Care Workers course. This program is designed to equip you with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to provide high-quality, person-centred care to elderly individuals.

Working within the framework of the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, aged care workers play a critical role in supporting the health, dignity, and well-being of older adults. The role of an aged care worker extends beyond providing basic assistance. This course begins by outlining key responsibilities, ethical and professional conduct, and the importance of maintaining compliance with industry standards to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

Effective communication skills are crucial in aged care. This section explores how to build rapport with elderly clients, communicate effectively with individuals experiencing dementia or cognitive impairments, and adapt communication techniques for clients with hearing or vision loss.

Providing person-centred care ensures that support is tailored to the individual’s needs and preferences. This section covers the principles of personalised care, how to develop and implement Individualised Care Plans (ICPs), and ways to uphold client dignity, choice, and autonomy.

Supporting activities of daily living (ADLs) is a core responsibility of aged care workers. This section focuses on assisting clients with personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, and encouraging independence in daily routines while maintaining safety and comfort.

Ensuring safe manual handling and mobility support is critical for both the safety of clients and the well-being of aged care workers. This section provides guidance on correct lifting and transferring techniques, safe use of assistive devices, and injury prevention strategies.

Medication assistance and health monitoring require strict adherence to guidelines. This section provides an overview of medication administration, monitoring changes in client health, and the importance of accurate documentation to ensure compliance and safety.

Dementia care and cognitive support require a specialised approach. This section explores the progression of dementia, communication techniques for individuals with memory impairments, and strategies for managing behaviours of concern in dementia care.

Supporting mental health and emotional well-being is essential in aged care. This section covers recognising signs of depression and anxiety in elderly clients, providing emotional and psychological support, and encouraging social engagement to reduce isolation.

Ensuring proper nutrition, hydration, and mealtime assistance is vital for client well-being. This section discusses safe eating and drinking practices, identifying swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), and promoting healthy dietary habits in aged care settings.

Maintaining infection control and hygiene best practices is necessary to prevent illness and ensure a safe care environment. This section covers personal hygiene protocols, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and effective cleaning and sanitisation procedures.

Understanding safeguarding and elder abuse prevention is critical to protecting vulnerable clients. This section covers recognising the signs of elder abuse and neglect, the legal and ethical responsibilities of aged care workers, and the procedures for reporting and responding to concerns.

Providing palliative and end-of-life care requires compassion and sensitivity. This section explores how to support clients and families through the palliative care process, manage pain and symptom relief, and understand Advance Care Directives and end-of-life planning.

Preventing falls and managing risk is essential in aged care settings. This section covers identifying fall hazards, implementing prevention strategies, and responding effectively when falls and injuries occur.

Cultural competence and diversity awareness play an important role in aged care. This section highlights the importance of culturally appropriate care, supporting Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clients, and respecting religious and cultural end-of-life practices.

Providing transport and mobility support enables elderly clients to maintain independence and access essential services. This section covers best practices for assisting clients in and out of vehicles, supporting those using public transport, and managing mobility challenges in community settings.

Maintaining workplace health and safety (WHS) is a legal and professional responsibility in aged care. This section outlines how to identify workplace hazards, follow WHS procedures, and minimise risks associated with hazardous substances and equipment.

Upholding professional boundaries and self-care is essential for aged care workers. This section explores how to maintain professionalism while fostering trust with clients, recognise signs of burnout and compassion fatigue, and implement self-care strategies for emotional resilience.

Finally, documentation, reporting, and compliance ensure accountability and transparency in aged care. This section provides best practices for accurate record-keeping, writing incident reports, and complying with Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards.

By completing this course, you will gain the essential skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and safe care to elderly individuals. This training will empower support workers to provide a dignified and respectful experience for clients while ensuring their own professional growth and well-being in the aged care sector.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Summer wedding kids suit
Color: Navy, Size: 10 Years, Color: Navy, Size: 10 Years
Bought this suit for my son in the 10 youth size and honestly was pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price. The navy color looks sharp and dressy without being too stiff or uncomfortable. The material has a little stretch, which helped it fit nicely and made it comfortable for him to move around in. The adjustable waist was a huge plus, especially for growing kids. It fit true to size overall, though the blazer sleeves were slightly long on my son. The pants had a nice slim look without being too tight. We paired it with white sneakers for a more modern look and it came out adorable. This would be perfect for weddings, graduations, concerts, communion, school events, or family photos. Overall, very happy with the purchase and would definitely buy again.

Very Modern Handsome Suit
Color: Grey, Size: 7 Years, Color: Grey, Size: 7 Years
This is an incredibly sharp looking suit for the little guy. Great price and features, too. I made a mistake in sizing up instead of down and first one was too sloppy on him and would need alterations. He is thin and very thin in the waist. There is a lot of adjustment with buttons in waistband and coat hides the bunching. This shirt and coat will easily take a fuller body than slim I believe. He loves posing in it and feels very classy. Best purchase for a formal suit that will last longer than most kids clothes size wise. Felt bad about returning but careful folding and packing got it good as new.

Sharp Looking Kids Suit With One Missing Piece
Color: Navy, Size: 7 Years, Color: Navy, Size: 7 Years
I ordered this suit for my 6yo son in a size 7 so he would have a little room to grow and get more wear out of it, and sizing is perfect. He did not need it for any specific occasion, he just wanted a suit because apparently kindergarteners sometimes wake up and decide they are businessmen now. Let me start with the positives because there are a lot of them. This is a very well made suit. The jacket, pants, and dress shirt are all surprisingly nice quality. The fabric does not feel cheap or flimsy at all. The jacket has good structure, the buttons are well attached, the seams are clean, and all the little details like the collar and pockets look great. It honestly looks like a proper little formal suit. The pants are nicely made as well and pair perfectly with the jacket. The white dress shirt underneath is also good quality and completes the whole look. Overall, it is a really sharp outfit and would absolutely work for special occasions like weddings, recitals, formal events, church, or family photos. Now for the reason I am deducting one star. The listing specifically shows and mentions that this set includes a bow tie. That was actually the main reason I chose this particular suit over others. Some options only had a standard tie or no tie at all, but my son specifically wanted a bow tie. Unfortunately, the bow tie was not included with mine. That was definitely disappointing because it was one of the main selling points for me when choosing this set. Now I have to go find a separate bow tie that matches, which I was hoping to avoid. That said, I do want to be clear that this issue does not take away from the actual quality of the suit itself. The suit is genuinely very well made and looks fantastic on him. If your child needs a suit for a wedding, formal event, recital, or something similar, this would absolutely work. My son mostly just wanted a suit because he thinks it is cool, so now he has one and can show up to school looking like the smallest CEO in kindergarten. Overall, this is a very nice quality suit set. I just wish the bow tie that was advertised had actually been included.
